Spotlite
Art Direction, Brand Redesign, Product Design
I joined as employee 13, leading Spotlite's brand and product maturity phase as Art Director. (Our family moved across the country to Chicago for this opportunity in the time before remote work.)
About 15 months later, we were acquired by Rally Health whose Chief Creative Officer told me a big part of what drew them to us was our (updated) brand and design culture.
All product design and collaboration with product managers and engineering team
Brand overhaul and all following marketing design from website to emails to presentations and sales collateral.
Product nomenclature to distinguish our four offerings: Spotlite Choice (enrollment), Spotlite Central (admin), Spotlite Relay (EDI), and Spotlite Marketplace.
Hiring first additional designer, who developed into a talented product designer and remained on my team through the next 6 years before I departed.
Adobe Creative Suite
InVision (prototyping)
Working at Spotlite
While I technically had already worked in product as a production manager for a sales training company, this was my first true role in B2B SaaS. From the time I joined we were on a fast clip and experiencing all the highs and lows of growing a startup through scale.
Brand Redesign
A few months after I had joined, it became clear the original brand was not able to scale or get us taken seriously for the growth we were striving for. I approached the Founder/CEO and VP of Product with a case for taking a new approach, which they both agreed made sense. I explored a handful of concepts, landing on what we would lovingly refer to as "the sushi."
Product Design
I came from a web design background, so building with a product and engineering team was an exciting evolution. It challenged and grew me in my thinking and design skills, while offering the thrill of building something for a scale beyond anything I'd previously done.
I was also intimately involved in sprint planning, QA testing, and retros.
